NYSC,BAUCHI GOVT DENY BOMB BLAST

– Both the National Youth Service
Corps (NYSC) and the Bauchi State
Government have dismissed the
rumour that more than 50 corps
members at the Wailo
Orientation Camp in Bauchi were
killed in a Wednesday morning
bomb blast.
Director of NYSC in the state,
Nuhu Kwaghe described the
rumour as wicked and callous,
saying all corps members
deployed to the state — more
than 1,300 in all — are safe and
in good health.
"You are in Bauchi and if
anything happened you will be
aware. Nothing has happened
like that at all. All is well in the
camp right now and the corps
members are on the parade
ground as I am speaking with
you now," Kwaghe said.
The Bauchi State government
similarly denied the news. In a
release signed by Mr. Ishola
Michael Adeyemi, the chief press
secretary to the governor, the
government described the
rumour as baseless and
unfounded, and an information
that could not be substantiated
by mongers bent on disrupting
the peaceful atmosphere in the
state.
"The rumour is the handiwork of
a few people who are enemies of
peace and who want to cause
unnecessary panic among the
people, particularly the corps
members who are visitors to the
state; the rumour is a mere
figment of the imagination of the
mongers," the statement read.
"As a government, we are
committed to the protection of
lives and properties of every law-
abiding citizen of the state.
Adequate security measures have
been put in place and we are
working with all security
agencies in the state. The effort
is paying because Bauchi state
has remained peaceful in spite of
the security challenges the
country is facing."
It, therefore, assured "all those
who have children and wards at
the Wailo NYSC Orientation Camp
that the situation there is calm as
the corps members were seen
going about their normal camp
activities without any hindrance."
In another development, a
nursing mother and three of her
children were murdered by
unknown gunmen suspected to
be Fulani herdsmen in Yong
Village in Tafawa Balewa Local
Government area of Bauchi State.
The four victims were working
on their farm in the village early
on Wednesday morning when
the tragedy befell them. Husband
of the late woman and father of
the three children spoke in tears,
confirming the incident and
saying that his life had been
ruined.
